When a session is running and i press the up/down button the display toggles between AoF/Aon and the sound changes.
I can't find any reference to this in the manual, what is this actually doing?

Welcome to the forum. A few people have asked that question; it was a last-minute addition to the firmware so the instructions didn't make it to the manual. See here:
