Thread: New Editor and OS posted

Default New Editor and OS posted

We've just posted the latest version of both the Editor (1.7.22) and OS (1.7.41) to the Procyon support area, and we'll be programming our existing stock of units with this OS and shipping them as quickly as we can.

    Here's a link: http://www.mindplacesupport.com/Procyon.htm

We've also pulled the previous beta release, which this one replaces. One thing not yet fixed is the archive/restore function, expect this within the week--we just didn't want to delay this critical update any longer than necessary.

Thanks again to Andy, Claudius, and the others who have helped test our alpha releases--and those of you who continue to offer constructive suggestions and patient understanding! We really do appreciate it.

Note: the download ZIP file includes a PDF of the installation instructions.

    Enjoy!

    After 2 months......
Are you working on it? Are you planning other updates to OS? Now it seems that OS update function was made to sell devices with raw, not ready firmware and fix it later.

This should be working, we must have forgotten to make an announcement. Have you tried it on the latest OS?

I wanted to say that there is no updates to OS in two months that could mean two things:
    1) You are developing something good or
    2) I have given up developing new OS'es for Procyon, when fixed all major bugs
    Which one is true?

    I'm afraid neither are true.
The latest OS fixes all known bugs and issues.
We will likely bring out more OS updates as we add new features, and fix newly-discovered bugs.
The Proteus OS has gone through significant changes since it's first OS and many new and useful features have been added. It's very feature-rich now and quite improved from the original. I expect the Procyon will also benefit from simliar free upgrades.

Releasing a new OS gives the buyer great value for their money as they get new or expanded features for no additional cost. I for one am really glad that MindPlace chose the route of updatable OS as opposed to a fixed static feature set.

Thanks. Could you tell us the plan about new features in Procyon and there approximate release dates? What features your programmers are working on now?

Nothing planned at the moment. They'll likely be a new OS when the PreSage is released but there is no timeline for when that will happen.

Please let us know if you find any bugs in the current OS or if you have a suggestion for an additional feature. There's no guarantee for new features, but we do like to hear about possible improvements our customers would like.

Hi, Maximus--you wanted to know what features we would be adding and when we'll release them. Andy is correct that the next major upgrade will be related to the PreSage release. Normally we produce new firmware releases to: a) fix any bugs that we earlier missed, b) add new features as they occur to us, and c) add features suggested by customers.

Our favorite releases are in the category (c) - so please do feel free to let us know what sorts of features and changes to the current system you would most prefer!
