Procyon Driver Installation
HELP PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
After reviewing the posts and checking my Procyon Rev.2 I noticed that it would not toggle between AL and DL (hope these are the right codes, but you get the idea) while in AS mode.
So I determined that I had not updated the Procyon. Then going through the instructions (had already downloaded the current software revisions to the computer) tryed to update the Procyon. No luck. Changed USB ports, no luck. changed USB to Procyon cable, No luck. Uninstalled the driver and new Editor. Then reinstalled them, after which I again experienced the same problems in attempting to update the Procyon.
Help is needed. What have I missed or done incorrectly? HELP:confused:
Thanks

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
You'll need to give some more information so I can help.
At what step exactly are you getting stuck?

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi Andy,
After opening the Proycon editor V2.2.05 with the Proycon pluged into the computer it sometimes (most of the time) gets a hick-up when I go to select and open port. It does not recognize the port until I have it search for the port.:BangHead:
After that is resolved then go to "Utilities" and select "Update Procyon OS" This is where it really gets stuck. A small screen comes up saying something to the effect "communicating with Procyon" or "dowloading to the Procyon". I did not write down the wording so please excuse the lack of detail regarding that screen.:BangHead:
It just sits there showing the dowload status of being like one tenth and not moving at all. Not moving even after waiting 5 or more minutes. The Procyon display does not change to dl1 and does not flash.:BangHead:
Also have experienced the above by pluging into each USB port on my computer and attempting update at each one, no luck. Have attemped the above with the unit in dl1, no luck.:BangHead:
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi Charles,
I believe you'll find if the very, very first thing you do after launching the editor is 'open com port' everything should be fine after that. If necessary, select the correct com port, close the editor and start again, opening the com port immediately.
Cheers,
Craig

Hi Craig,
Have tryed the recommended fix but still no go. It remains stuck at the download screen.:dontknow:

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
I still keep a copy of the 2.1 editor on one my my machines that still isn't wildly fond of the new editor. All the others are okay, but one machine just isn't happy about it. Maybe you've also got a 1-in-? machine. Uploading the new OS with the old editor works fine.
Cheers,

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hello again CraigT,
Have tryed the fix again a few more times. A couple of times after getting stuck at the little screen that says "Sending data to the Procyon unit" another little screen comes up saying "The Procyon is not responding. Check to see if the unit is on. Check the USB connection"
So I tryed it on another USB port on the PC(Vista). Still no go.
:dontknow: Just say your latest input. I will uninstall the new editor and download the old. Should that do it?

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
You've said the magic word - it's my Vista machine that still has probs too. Mostly the 'fix' works, but not always. Just use the old editor - should be fine.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi CraigT,
Have uninstalled the Rev. 2.2 Editor. Installed the Rev. 2.1 Editor and tryed the fix. This time it won't even open the com port:(
I'm getting more and more used to installing software:icon_wink:

Hi Charles;
Sorry you're having so much trouble with this!
So are you selecting the Com port manually before trying to open?
Do you know how to go into the device manager to verify the Com port that the Procyon is using?
Are you using the latest driver from the support site?
Let me know these things and I'm sure we can figure this out. I'm pretty certain there's nothing wrong with your Procyon, more likely just a driver issue that we'll get to the bottom of.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the time you are spending in these Forums. Thanks for your help on this.
Selecting the Com port manually: The editor only has one selected "Com port 3" am unable to select another.
I do not know how to go into the device manager. Unless you mean the "Serial Communication" tab in the editor.
The Silabs driver is the one that I am using. When I open it up it shows a date of 9-18-2008. But on the MindPlace support page a date of Dec 12, 2008 is noted.:icon_rolleyes:
Thanks Again,
Charles M

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi Charles;
Here's how to check your driver. This only works when the Procyon is plugged in and powered on.
First, go to Device Manager (Right-Click My Computer and select Manage, then select "Device Manager"
Click on "Ports (COM and LPT)". Make a note of what com port the Procyon USB port is.
If it is COM3 then that makes sense. If it is something else, then we may have a problem with the install of the driver.
As Craig mentioned, when using the editor, you need to go to the Serial Communication tab, use "Set Com Port" to select the correct port, then select "Open Com Port" BEFORE you try to do anything in the editor. If the editor connects to the port, the status light in the upper left of the editor should turn green.
Let me know what you discover.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hello:
Followed the instruction for the Device Manager. What came up was: USB bridge for Mindplace Procyon(com4)
I then closed that down and went to the Editor in "Set Com Port" it showed the only avalible port to be com3. When opening the com port the status light did turn green. Then a unable to communicate with Procy... screen apeard and the status light turned red.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Very strange. Are you able to do a screenshot of the "Set Com Port" screen?
Com 4 is definitely not selectable in that screen?

-Andy.
If 'after' plugging in your Procyon to your USB your device manager says, USB bridge for Mindplace Procyon(com4), then when you then open up the Procon editor and go to select a com port it should show com 4 with a dot in it.
My device driver says, USB bridge for Mindplace Procyon(com5), so when I do this I find that com 5 has been selected (although it does also show coms 1-3 as available). If I try to change this to com 1-3 I get similar error msgs.
Also, if you have a multiple USB powered (or worse unpowered) hub (the ones that allow you to hook up several USB devices to it, hooked into one of you PC's primary USB plugs you might want to try hooking the Procyon to one of your primary USB plugs, maybe the one that your multiple hub might be hooked up into. I have found that some USB hubs cause Procyon hookup problems.
Hope you manage to sort this problem out real soon. Good luck with it all.
Best cheers,
TomC
PS I'm using Windows XP, not Vista by the way!

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi,
Can't get a screen shot (not quiet sure how to do that).
After selecting Set COM port the Available Ports screen apears. Inside it shows COM1 thru COM16 each covered with pink. The only one without pink is COM3. It is clear with a dot in its circle. Am unable to unselect COM3 or select any other port.
Something else regarding "USB bridge for Mindplace Procyon (COM4). I double clicked that and a Properties screen came up. Under the "General" tab for "Device status" it says: Windows cannot loadthe device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39).
Then under the "Port Settings" tab and selecting "Advanced" showed a screen "Advanced Settings for COM4" in that screen another selection "COM Port Number" in that small box it says COM4. But many other ports can be selected. The drop down screen listed COM3 (in use).
So above is the next head scratching information.
Where do I go on this adventure from here?
Thanks

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. It seems the driver did not install properly.
Go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features if you are on Vista) and uninstall the "USB Bridge for Mindplace Procyon".
Reboot your computer. DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PROCYON TO THE PC!!!
Download the driver from http://www.mindplacesupport.com/Procyon.htm
Make sure you get the correct driver for your Procyon by verifying the OS version when you power on your Procyon.
Install that driver and then reboot your PC.
Plug in your Procyon, let the New Hardware Wizards do their thing by selecting "Automatic" and make sure it installs successfully.
Go to the Device Manager and check to see which COM port is selected. Verify that the driver installed correctly.
Run the Editor and select that same COM port.
You should be able to open the port at this point.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi,
No "new hardware wizard" and still the same problem.:BangHead:

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hmmm...
For some reason the old driver is not un-installing. I'll have to look into how to get rid of the corrupted install.
I guess you don't have another PC (or a friend's PC) that you could install the editor and driver at least to get the OS update done?

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi Andy,
I do have an old Dell laptop that runs very slow (don't use it anymore). Will dust it off and will experience how well these downloads and Procyon work on it.
Will let you know what happens.
Thanks,

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Andy,
Got the old computer out dusted it off and turned it on. But for some reason it would not connect to the Internet?
Seems we are back to the Desk top Vista HP computer.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
10-4. Hopefully I can figure out how to completely get rid of the old driver.
You could try a system restore from before you installed the driver if you are comfortable with that process...
Or just hang tight. I will look into it and get back to you.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi Andy,
Experienced the System Restore and Installed the Editor and downloaded the Driver. At that point I plugged in the Procyon. The system recognized it and started to install the Drive.
Then a window opened up stating "Windows requires a digitally signed driver". Did some more research and found out the 64bit versions of Vista require the driver to be digitally signed. Other Vista versions do not, and of course mine is 64bit.
I am about to uninstall what portions of the driver that are on this system. Will await your input before doing anything else after that.
Thanks again,
Charles M

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Charles M,
As Andy replied, one would eventually get to the bottom of the problem. As posted elsewhere on the BB, the driver is for 32bit windows operating system. Unless, things have changed there is no 64bit driver at this time.

Oh brother! I completely neglected to ask if you were running 64-bit Windows. The Driver will not work under 64-bit. :icon_redface:
I have to remember to ask this FIRST THING next time someone has a problem installing the driver!
So sorry for not asking that question sooner.
Nothing we can really do to solve your problem presently. There may be a solution in the future, but it's not worth waiting for. You will need a 32-bit OS to run the software for the forseeable future.
If you have no access to any 32-bit OS, then you can send the product back to MP and they will update it for you and send it back.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi Andy,
There is one more thing that I'll try. I'll save the Editor and Driver files on a flash drive. Then download them to the old Laptop I have. That unit is a Windows XP system. That system should then be able to update the Procyon.
If you have any tips on how to save those files to a Flash drive would appreciate them:) Will be borowing the flash drive from a friend on Tuesday. Will let you know how it goes.

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hi Charles;
You just need to save the 2 zip files that you downloaded from the support site. The editor: Procyon Editor & OS 2_2_05.zip and the driver: Rev 2 (SiLabs) Procyon Universal Driver v5.3.0.zip
Drag them to your flash drive, let the operation complete and remove your flash drive. Once you've got your laptop up and running, put that flash drive into that computer and drag those files to your desktop. Double-click the driver file and run the setup. Then double-click the editor file and run the setup.
Hope it all works!

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
Hello,
I have installed Procyon Editor 2.2.05 on my Vista 64 laptop. I can not successfully install the SiLab driver and connect the Procyon to my laptop. I get the message 'Windows requires Digital Signature'. Earlier, using another computer I updated the driver on Procyon and it now shows 2.1.4 However, I would like to edit and upload the sessions to Procyon. Without the link to Procyon from my Vista Laptop, I can not achieve that. Would you please suggest me how and when this issue will be resolved.
Regards
Srikrishna

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
As far as I know, the manufacturers of the USB interface chips have not yet released a workable 64 bit driver.
Cheers,
Craig

Re: Procyon Driver Installation
That is correct. Although they claim that the driver supports x64, it does not, at least on the ICs that they make for the Procyon.
We are hoping for a solution to this problem eventually, but there is no ETA on that as it will be up to the IC manufacturers if/when they decide to fix it.
